3 Way Catalysts

3 Way Catalysts (TWC) reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC) in rich-burn natural gas, propane, and other spark-ignition engines, helping stationary engines meet stringent emissions standards, including PZEV and similar regulatory requirements.

Where They’re Used

  • Power Generation

  • Combined Heat & Power (CHP)

  • Gas Compression

  • Pumping

  • Other industrial applications where compliance, uptime, and predictable operation are critical

Benefits

  • Efficient multi-pollutant control without complex aftertreatment stages

  • Compact sizing ideal for retrofit projects or tight enclosures

  • Lower maintenance needs compared to particulate-based systems

  • Consistent performance with engines operating at or near stoichiometric conditions

When a 3 Way Catalyst is Needed

  • To Meet Emissions Regulations: Essential when local, national, or permit limits require PZEV-level or low-emission compliance for NOx, CO, and HC.

  • For Engines in Regulated Areas: Common for stationary engines in hospitals, data centers, commercial facilities, or sites under EPA, CARB, or local environmental authority oversight.

  • For Continuous or Prime Power Operation: Maintains compliance under extended operation, ensuring predictable pollutant reduction.

  • When Retrofit or Space Constraints Exist: Compact form factor allows installation in existing enclosures without extensive system modification.

Typical Reductions

  • NOx: up to 90-95% (engine and operating condition dependent)

  • CO: up to 90%

  • HC: up to 90%
